Hiawatha Elementary PTO

This summer you will see some new additions to our school grounds – we will be adding outdoor fitness equipment and pavement along the east side of the school to connect the sidewalks for a 1/2 mile loop around the school.  The fitness stations that will be added are excercise bikes, weighted rowers, ski-walkers, sit-up board, vertical jump and a climbing wall.

The project will greatly improve the quality of fitness facilities available to students and community members.  A portion of the PTO funds raised by the Cougar Chase, Scrip, Box Tops, Carnivals, etc. over the past couple years are being used to fund this project, along with generous donations from our community:  Hi-CREW Kiwanis and UICCU.

We had an overwhelming response of candidates for the 2012-13 PTO Board!!  And the results are….oh wait, April Fools day was last month.    Your current PTO Board was re-elected for the upcoming school year.  Congratulations to Barb Crock & Bill Mackin (Co-Presidents), Jessica Larsen (Vice President), Angie Parker (Secretary) and Julie Spore (Treasurer).

All jokes aside, we have had several new parents join PTO committees this year, and we are blessed with the number of families that also support the PTO by volunteering their time and/or providing food donations.  Your fearless leaders thank you!

We are always open to new ideas and new committee members, so if you are thinking you want to be more involved but don’t know where to start, just shoot us an email and we can talk.

Teacher Appreciation week is May 7-11 and it is time to honor and thank our INCREDIBLE staff at Hiawatha Elementary!  The PTO will honor them with a catered lunch on Wednesday, May 9th from Java Creek Cafe.

In addition, your students will bring home certificates where they can write a note why they appreciate their teachers.  Please encourage your students to fill these out and give them to the staff to show how much they care. 

The last Scrip order for the school year is coming soon…and it is time to stock up for the summer! Do you have any big purchases coming up, have a favorite place to eat out or need a gift card to give as a gift?  Make your life easy and purchase the gift card through us! 

Order forms will come home Monday, May 7 and are due back Friday, May 11th.  Gift cards will be delivered on Friday, May 18th.

Wow…what else can we say?!?  The Box Tops keep rolling in…and we continue to receive nice checks from this program!  The school recently turned in 6,818 Box Tops from the months of December-March.  That’s another $681.80!

What does that buy you ask?  Consider this – has your student gone on a field trip this school year?  This amount would cover the bus costs for three local field trips (excluding entry fees).  Because of YOU our students are able to experience these amazing opportunities!
